Diesel particulate filter and exhaust system on a truck engine

Home / DPF Cleaning And Repairs

Blocked DPF? Fix the cause, not just the light.

Warning lights, limp mode and constant regens are symptoms. We diagnose why the filter is loading up, clean it properly, and get the system working the way it should.

Why filters block

A blocked DPF is usually telling you something else is wrong.

The diesel particulate filter traps soot and burns it off during a regeneration cycle. When that cycle cannot complete, soot builds until the engine drops into limp mode and the truck stops earning.

Short runs and stop start work are part of it, but most of the trucks we see have an underlying fault. A leaking injector, a sticking EGR valve, a tired turbo or a failed pressure sensor will keep loading the filter no matter how many times it is cleaned.

We find that fault first. Cleaning a filter without fixing the cause just buys you a few weeks.

Symptoms we see

If the truck is doing any of this, call us.

DPF light on or flashing

The filter is loading faster than it can burn off, or a regen has failed.

Limp mode and power loss

The ECU has cut power to protect the engine. It will not clear on its own.

Regens far too often

Regenerating every few hundred kilometres points to a fault, not driving style.

Fuel use climbing

Constant regeneration burns extra fuel and dilutes the engine oil.

Heavy smoke

Excess soot upstream usually means injectors, turbo or EGR need attention.

Regen will not start

Often a differential pressure sensor, temperature sensor or wiring fault.

What we actually do

Diagnose, clean, refit, reset.

Every job follows the same order so you are not paying twice for the same fault.

Diagnosis

  • Full ECU scan and live data
  • Differential pressure sensor testing
  • Exhaust temperature sensor checks
  • Injector, EGR and turbo inspection
  • Soot and ash load readings

Cleaning and repair

  • Forced regeneration where the filter allows
  • Filter removed for off vehicle cleaning
  • EGR valve and cooler cleaning
  • Sensor and wiring replacement
  • Injector and turbo repairs where needed

Refit and reset

  • Filter refitted with new gaskets
  • Ash and soot counters reset in the ECU
  • Regeneration cycle verified on the spot
  • Fault codes cleared and rechecked
  • Written service report on completion

Straight answer

We keep the emissions system intact.

Removing or disabling a diesel particulate filter on a road registered vehicle is against the law in Australia and can carry heavy penalties for the operator as well as the workshop. We do not do it.

What we do is make the system work properly again, which in almost every case is cheaper than a replacement filter and far cheaper than a fine or a failed inspection.

If a filter is genuinely beyond cleaning we will tell you, quote a replacement, and explain what caused it so the new one lasts.
